The kora sword is a weapon from Nepal used for both ceremonial and war purposes. It has a curved blade with the cutting edge on the inside of the curve. It is said that the thinner types are intended for combat, while the heavier ones are intended for ceremonial and sacrificial rituals. The example offered here is a heavy one. Weighing almost 1.5 kg and with a balance point shifted towards the middle of the blade, prolonged combat with such weapons is highly unlikely. What makes this example unique is the combination with the scabbard. It is very rare to find a kora with a scabbard. The scabbard is made of black dyed goatskin and is decorated on the front with a fleur-de-lis motif. The sheath and mouthpiece are made of fine silverwork with curls and leaf decorations. The thick blade is in very good condition and has two fillings along the spine.
The condition is very good. The scabbard has some damage to the leather, caused by the retraction of the sword. The damaged strip has been painted black by one of the previous owners. Very rare and impressive example in this configuration.
