For sale from a private collection. A large size Navaja folding knife. These knives used to be popular in Spain during the 18th and 19th century. The average Navaja knife blade varied between 15 and 23cm. The larger ones like our example are referred to as 'navajas de muestra' (show/exhibition pieces). The grip part has brass and nice color horn mounts, large clip point blade bearing the maker's name and origin 'Fermandez Zaragoza'. Tight and firm when opened or closed. 19th century. Some play of the faulty lock catch that should hold the knife in open position. A typical issue on most Navaja knives.
